EXCERPT:
The dark feeling inside me was twining its way out from the core of my being, winding its tentacles around my ribs.  My fingers were quivering, and I pushed my hands deeper into my pockets so no one else would see.
I glanced to my right and caught the terrified expression in Natalie’s big blue eyes.  She was standing as close to David as possible without wrapping her arms around him.  David’s eyes were squinting slightly as he looked into the fire, and I noticed that his brow was furrowed.  Andrew was as still as a statue, his eyes still on Grandpa, but I could see that he was wondering … wondering … it scared me when he wondered …

Coffee or Tea: “Sweet Iced Tea,” Everett smiled. “Blair’s grandma makes the best!”

Winter or Summer: “Summer. That’s when the bugs are out!” Everett’s eyes were wide behind the thick lenses of his glasses as if the interviewer should have instinctively known the answer.

Classic or New Music: “Classic music, I guess. Willie Nelson’s my favorite. Although, I’ve discovered a new group recently,” he shrugged and scratched is head.

Magic or Reality: “Without a doubt, the answer is Magic. There are different types of magic, you know. On one hand you have the magical fireflies that light up the night. On the other, you have intelligent beings from other planets. What? Why are you looking so quizzical at that statement? Of course there are aliens in outer space!” He looked at the interviewer as if the person had lost her mind.

Twilight or Harry Potter: “Harry Potter, of course!” Everett snorted and pushed his glasses up his nose.

Movie or Shopping: “I prefer going to movies at The Grand with my friends…especially with Blair. We share a bucket of popcorn, and sometimes we talk during the movie. Yeah, movies with Blair are the best,” Everett smiled and a hint of a blush flashed across his cheeks and nose.

Cat or Dog: “Well, I prefer bugs. But if I have to choose between the two of these, I would choose a dog. Blair could always use a dog at the ranch with the cattle. In fact, I’ve been meaning to get her a puppy for quite some time, but I haven’t. Maybe for her birthday this year,” he pulled a tiny notebook from his back pocket and scribbled a reminder on the small calendar inside.

Day or Night: “Can I choose both? Yeah, I’ll choose both.” Everett leaned his chair back slightly and rested against the wall with his hands locked behind his head. “Next question!”

Audiobooks or Music in the Car: “Music in the car. Well, I don’t have a car, but I like listening to music when we’re cruising around in Andrew’s truck. I’m saving up for a moped, though,” he yawned and looked at his watch.

Tattoos or Piercings: “Neither. Look at me. Do I look like someone who would have a tattoo or piercing?” He snorted a laugh as he held his arms out to prove he had no tattoos.

Truth or Dare: “I’m not easily scared, so I choose dare,” a broad goofy smile crossed his face. Then he looked at his watch again and stood up. “Well, I’ve gotta get to work at Kroger or I’m gonna be late. Thanks for the interview,” he shook the interviewer’s hand and left the room. Just like that.

Review : Cicada by Belle Whittington

Cicada

Today I am bringing back my little helper reviewer Tammana! She has a great review of Cicada by Belle Whittington which she just adored! So keep reading for her fabulously fun review!

Summertime for Blair Reynolds and her friends had always been carefree and fun…until the summer they happened upon something that was not human. As they band together in a fight for their lives, Blair’s true love becomes something more than human. Something unnatural. And their survival depends entirely upon their ability to keep a secret.

Cicada by Belle Whittington is an out of this world book. She doesn’t drag on the story, keeping it a continuous mystery. With more and more surprises along the way.

Blair is a normal girl with normal friends and family, until one summer when something totally bizarre and Definitively not human happens. Something that will change her life forever. And keeping a secret is the key to survival to this mystery.

At first i thought the book looked so interesting cause the cover did, and least expected that it would be about aliens. I kept reading and as i progressed the book got more interesting. I rate this book 5 stars and can’t wait to show my friends and my family about this book.

My POV
I was not expecting such a big story from such a small book. The gorgeous cover deceived me a little because  this 198 page adrenaline pack story was about aliens in a small Texas town near Houston (my home town). I’ve always been terrified of aliens after seeing Fire in the Sky so this book was on the scary side for me but you will not find the book in the Horror section in the bookstore. I would say its more of a YA Thriller with a pocket full of romance.

The five main characters, Blair, Andrew, Everett, David and  Natalie go through some major changes during their summer before leaving to college. This book is written in Blair’s POV and she is one year younger then her brother and friends and while they are all graduating she is moving up to senior status as fall comes around. The summer starts off just the same an any other in their usual meeting spot at the drive in when you get the suspicious feeling that not all is what it seems in this small community. Buildings start to look suspicious, people are acting a little differently, animal are being skittish, crop circles are mysteriously appearing, and the “haunted wood” holds many surprises for this Texas town.

Cicada

Today I’d like to welcome a fun group a young friends from Cicada, who are here to answer my questions, get ready for some interesting answers!

SNR: What is your ideal summer vacation? With friends or family?

David interrupts the rest of the group by saying, “I’ll answer this one.”  Then he puts his arm around Natalie and says, “Best vacation would be me and Natalie on a tropical island.”
“I’d like to go on a trip to the Congo for bug collecting,” Everett said while pushing his glasses up.  “With friends would be the most fun…if I could get them to come along.  What about you, Blair?  Would you go?”
“Try and stop me, Bug Boy!” Blair giggled and elbowed Everett in the ribs.
“My perfect vacation?  All of my friends, the ones sitting here with me today, and my family on a camping trip in the mountains.  I think that would be the perfect vacation,” Andrew answered, smiling at his friends.

“What David said,” Natalie answered, smiling and gently laying her head on David’s shoulder.
